Crawford County Democrats gathered at the Brasell Building in Dow City for their County Convention, Saturday, March 10, 2012.
Attendees were privileged to meet a number of candidates for area and local offices including Iowa House candidates House District 51 representative Dan Muhlbauer from Manilla and Kasey Friedrichsen, candidate for state representative in Iowa House District 18, from Denison. Crawford County Democrats were also introduced to Mary Bruner, Carroll native who is running for the Iowa State Senate’s 6th District seat.
Dow City’s own, Crawford County Sheriff Jim Steinkuehler and County Auditor Terri Martins of Denison also thanked the convention for their support and shared their ideas. County Chairman Larry Petersen shared a message from former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack, candidate for U.S. Congress from Iowa’s new 4th District. Petersen also reminded attendees of the importance of rallying support for President Obama’s reelection.
Delegates and alternates to the District and State conventions were elected and county proposals for the party platform were discussed, debated, and voted on. The District 4 Convention will be held in Storm Lake on Saturday, April 28. The State Democratic Convention will be in Des Moines on Saturday, June 16.
Patty Richie, Treasurer of the Crawford County Democrats was appointed Affirmative Action Chair and was nominated to run for the County Board of Supervisors.
Buck Grove Delegate Kenneth Kahl Jr. invited delegates to enjoy prime rib at a local restaurant as the convention adjourned.
